The Euronext Lisbon Awards highlight that Sonae was the company within the Portuguese stock market that yielded the highest return for investors in the past year
Sonae was the Portuguese stock market’s listed company that yielded the highest return for investors last year, in terms of larger companies, and was distinguished today by Euronext with the "Equity Champion – Blue Chip” award at the Euronext Lisbon Awards.
The award recognises "the listed company with the highest total return, reflecting the evolution of share price and dividend payments” among all national and international Blue Chip companies listed in the markets managed by Euronext Lisbon.
Patrícia Vieira Pinto, Sonae’s Investor Relations Director, points out that "This distinction is an important recognition of our businesses’ performance and of the success of the Group’s portfolio management. Sonae is a long living company with an active policy of creating value for its several stakeholders, particularly its shareholders. In 2021, total return for our shareholders stood at 61%, well above any comparable index in the European market. Sonae has hence asserted its position once again as an attractive company for long-term investors, who seek to maximise the value of their assets in a sustained and sustainable manner.”
In a year marked by the pandemic, Sonae’s stock reached a value of 52% during 2021, to €1.003 per share, having distributed a dividend of €4.86 cents per share regarding the financial year of 2020, which translated in a dividend yield of 7.4%.
In 2021, Sonae maintained an active portfolio management, having consolidated value across several investments and established partnerships to drive the development of its businesses, as was the case of Sonae MC. At the same time, Sonae banners continued to strengthen their leadership positions and were able to accelerate their digitalisation.
