It was in the beginning of 2017 that BIT joined Porto Tech Hub, an association that brings together the best technology companies within the Greater Porto area and firstly seeks to promote synergies between companies in the IT field, namely to attract talent and innovation ability, at the same time as it promotes the city of Porto as an outstanding technological centre.
This association is also responsible for one of the biggest technology events in Portugal, Porto Tech Hub Conference, which gathered, last August 20th, over 800 people connected to technology at Alfândega do Porto's conference centre. We were part of the event's organization right from the start and helped bring to Portugal a group of IT experts, like Simona Cotin (Microsoft), Benjamin Fuentes (IBM) or Guillaume Picho (Ebay).
At BIT we have contributed to the growth of this IT community in many ways, such as:
- Our part as organisers and sponsors of the conference;
- Our support, hosting and supporting students and IT communities like Net.Ponto, Girl Geek Dinner, Porto Lean Coffee Portugal and Startup Coffee, among others;
- The Switch Program, a post-graduation course that will be held at ISEP, which aims to provide digital tools to students with BA's in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, giving them new skills and allowing them to divert their careers to the IT field.
All this work meets our strategy of coming closer to the IT community, which relied on projects like HeartBit Tours – an initiative that opened our building to higher education students – and BIT Wise, a monthly event for sharing knowledge, which has brought experts from several fields to BIT, or the various external events in which we have participated, mostly in universities.
